Improve your Mood with Aromatherapy

Improve your Mood with Aromatherapy

Are you in a slump, feeling stressed out, sad, or just plain tired? Aromatherapy is the art of using the power of scent to affect the psyche. You can practice aromatherapy home using all natural bath salts, bath oils, essential oils, lotions, and other products that are manufactured with pure botanical ingredients. Avoid synthetic products and artificial scents that lack the energetic qualities of their natural counterparts. Likewise, if your skin (or nose!) is on the delicate side, start by testing each new scent carefully, starting with only small amounts. Some essential oils, such as cinnamon oil, for example, can irritate the skin if used full-strength.

Here are a few great botanical scents you can incorporate into your everyday life to improve your mood:

Citrus: Use to invigorate your senses, increase energy, and encourage happiness.

Jasmine: Use to calm the nerves and inspire romantic feelings.

Lavender: Use to ease stress and bring a deep sense of peace and contentment.

Patchouli: Use to encourage passion, mellow sorrows, enhance intuition, and increase good fortune.

Try making your own aromatherapy products at home. Mix together some epsom salts with a little bit of sea salt, sprinkle on a few drops of essential oil in a scent you desire, and you've created your own aromatherapy bath salts. Create a sweetly scented sachet to keep in your closet—just place a handful of dried herbs or flowers (sprinkled with essential oils, if you like) in the middle of a small square of fabric, gather it together in a bundle, and secure with ribbon.

Experiment with different scents and discover for yourself what aromatherapy can do for you!
